Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a form of Energy Medicine. It was developed 200 years ago and, according to the World Health Organization, is now the fastest growing medical field. Homeopathy treats the person, not the disease. It is safe for babies, children, teens, adults, the elderly, pregnant women and those with chronic illnesses. Homeopathy stimulates the body’s own energies and immune system towards healing itself. It uses medicines derived from plants, minerals and animal substances. These medicines are highly diluted to prevent any possible toxic side effects.

Homeopathy is a very safe, gentle system of holistic medicine that carefully examines all of a patient’s presenting symptoms or complaints and matches these concerns with an appropriate homeopathic remedy or prescription. Examples of conditions that homeopathy treats include:

  • Digestive disorders
  • Headaches
  • Mental and emotional issues (e.g. stress, grief)
  • Skin complaints
  • Colds and flu
  • Muscular aches and pains
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Male or female complaints (e.g. prostate conditions, PMS, menopause)
  • Eating disorders
  • Pregnancy and post-partum issues
  • Injuries
  • Chronic ear or throat infections
  • Dental complaints or surgeries
  • Low energy

Homeopathy has been widely practiced for over 200 years throughout France, Germany, England, India and South Africa. Prior to World War II there were homeopathic hospitals in both Montreal and Toronto, and currently, there are numerous homeopathic hospitals in the UK and India. Amazing improvements in health have been achieved using homeopathy.

What are homeopathic remedies made of?

Homeopathic remedies are generally made from natural plant, animal or mineral sources. These original substances are then highly diluted, energized (shaken) and converted to medicines. The resulting medicines are very safe and have the power to gently stimulate an individual’s health and vitality. Homeopathic medicines come in various forms – tiny sweet-tasting globules, water- or alcohol-based drops, creams or sprays.

What happens when you see a homeopathic doctor?

The initial consultation with a homeopathic doctor is usually 1 or 1.5 hours in length. Often there is a detailed medical history to be completed prior to the visit. During the interview all of the patient’s concerns are reviewed. The homeopath then researches these symptoms and matches them to an appropriate homeopathic remedy, chosen carefully based on each individual’s unique needs. The patient is followed closely to ensure a good response to the remedy. Careful attention is also paid to the patient’s nutrition and lifestyle.

What is ‘classical’ homeopathy?

In classical homeopathy, the homeopathic doctor seeks to find a single remedy that will perfectly match all of a patient’s symptoms at that time. Classical homeopathy is individualized so that every patient with a headache, for example, is not necessarily given the same remedy. A classical homeopathic approach works towards boosting the overall constitution of a patient so that they can achieve increased health and vitality.

What is ‘complex’ homeopathy?

Increasingly, in homeopathy, there is a trend towards combination remedies that are a mixture of several different homeopathic medicines, in different potencies, blended to form a single remedy. Research is still being carried out to determine the synergistic benefits of complex homeopathy– with some very positive results.
